Fall Protection
Body Belts
As of January 1, 1998, use of a body belt for fall arrest is prohibited by OSHA. The body belts have been found to:
- Damage the spine & internal organs because all arresting force is applied to the abdomen.
- Average tolerable suspension time is 90 seconds, not allowing for a rescue plan.
- Maximum of only 900 pounds of arresting force (150 lb person falling 6 feet maximum).
